11.02.11 Presentation on hardness of water by Mr.Ashwin Gupta
Rajasthan English Higher Secondary school held a presentation cum demonstration on hardness water.
Mr. Ashwin Gupta (owner of Apurva water management) during the presentation discussed about the importance of water. in living organisms and in industrial processes. Students became aware of the hardness of water, its impurities, conservation of water and the effect to human health in the future generation if there's a scarcity of water.
Water contains as many as 6238 dissolved salts and other substances. Salts are present in the form of anions and cautions. Non Ionic substances like alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, phenols, particulate matter like solids, colloidal materials, Algae, etc. and gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine and hydrogen sulphide.
Water possesses two types of hardness mainly :-
(1) Temporary hardness
(2) Permanent hardness
Temporary hardness can be removed by boiling water. The permanent hardness which is due to TDS (Total dissolves salts) can be removed by chemical method and ion exchange method.
Chemically sodium carbonate is added to remove the hardness.
By ion exchange water is passed through zeolite (Na2 Al2 Si4 O12) which is also called as alumino silicate and the sodium ions are exchanged with calcium ions, hence the hardness of water is reduced.
Water supplied to homes for drinking contain high TDS. Hence people use softeners which contain zeolite. Hardness is also removed by reverse osmosis systems used abundantly in many homes.
12.02.11 Aruna Lal Scholarship Screening Test was conducted by Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) on 30th January 2011.Students from various schools in Ahmedabad participated in this event.

Forth Coming Events
Industrial visits have been planned for students by the last week of February and in March.
Science Seminar and Workshop
A science seminar and workshop was help on April 2010 in our school premises. Many schools from Ahmedabad had participated in the event. The programme was meaningful; thought provoking with practical knowledge given by scientist’s. Visiting participants had urged us to conduct such interesting and scientific programs every year.
Hence this year again we are organizing a Science Seminar and Workshop by the last week of April 2011.
